When to visit Nijmegen?
Nijmegen is beautiful all year round, but like any other city in the world, it has its peaks. “Peak season” runs from mid-April to mid-October. Most tourists plan their trip between July and August when the weather is at its finest. In general, extreme weather hardly ever occurs in any season, so if you favour travelling off-season, you’ll find the city every bit as attractive as during peak season.
During off-season months, hotels and restaurants are cheaper and less crowded (with more relaxed and personalised service), and there are a few very appealing events (like the famous ‘Vierdaagse’). Summertime temperatures in the Netherlands don’t often rise above an average of 75°F (24°C), a pleasant, balmy climate.
July and August are the best months for in-line skating, soaking up the sun on a café patio, dining alfresco in the evening, and going to the beach at the Waal River. In September and October, you can still enjoy a few weeks of great late-summer weather.
